Awareness, autonomy, foundations

The curiosity and the desire to learn in each child are encouraged and accompanied by personalised, individualised and stimulating support.

Using Montessori material, the child explorer develops his or her potential and autonomy. Each material is designed for acquisition, comes in a single copy, requiring care, order and the avoiding of any comparison between children. In handling this material, children lastingly acquire knowledge and person skills.

Typical day in the programme for 3-6 year-olds

8:30 to 8:55 am. Welcome to school. At 8:30, an educator waits at the school gate to welcome children and take over from parents until 8:55.

9 am. Activities begin. Children enter into the mood. They are invited to choose activities (“work” in Montessori speak) peculiar to the Montessori educational programme. A snack is prepared and served by children on a table at around 10 am, the time when two children prepare the bread. Educators work with the children up until the clear-away period at around 11:20.

11:20 am. Clear-away period. At 11:20, children who are given the responsibility to check every corner of the class-room are asked to clear away material. The twinning of an older pupil with a younger child makes this an easier process and helps convey proper instructions to the younger pupils.
During the clear-up period, educators facilitate activities such as singing, nursery rhymes, story-telling. They use this time to enhance the knowledge of children when it comes to geography (maps, natural phenomena…), the arts (painters, musicians…) and language.

11:45 to 12:30. Lunch. Before sitting down to table, each child is asked to go wash their hands. Supervision from educators promotes respect for good table manners, the core of our “savoir-vivre” programme.

12:15 pm. Lunch ends. By this time most of the children have finished their meal and are required to clear away and clean their table. They are all invited to go to the lavatory before the afternoon activities begin.

12:30 to 2:30 pm. Back to in-class activities. Children who need to rest are invited to settle in a small bed in the nap room. The others, after a short rest period, return to Montessori teaching programme activities or elect to take part in different workshops on offer (painting, music, discovering the world…) depending on the projects in progress.

2:30 to 3 pm. End of activities. Classroom clear-away.

3 to 3:30 pm. Outing to the Square Olave-et-Robert Baden-Powell or to the vegetable patch on the Blv Pereire. Children enjoy a little fresh air during this period. In poor weather, they stay inside and take part in different activities.

4:15 pm. Children leave school.
